Alternative use of the KANfix Colic Bandage

KANfix Abdominal Bandages are usually used on colic cases to protect the abdominal incision after surgery but can also be used to keep dressings in place for management of wounds. The body suit is being used to manage a horse that has lost a large amount of skin on the lower abdomen and chest region.

The site will undergo skin grafting once the 60x80cm area has started to contract and become more healthy. Professor Debra Archer and team at the University of Liverpool have tried a variety of different bandaging techniques but the body suit appears to work well for this case and is an economic way of keeping dressings in place. As well as protecting this area, other areas of the body covered by the suit can also be modified to keep dressings in place, particularly in hard to bandage sites.

The challenge is keeping dressings in place in such a large area and hard place. The body suit is proving fantastic and has provided a way to do this whilst allowing her to be comfortable. I have found it particularly good in the extreme heat as the mesh prevents over heating. Although she has had it on for several weeks there is no evidence of any rubbing. It is definitely playing an extremely valuable part in her recovery. Sue Williams – Owner.

Colic Surgery- KANfix Equine Abdominal

Smith (2006) reported that in a controlled, randomised trial it was found that 31.6% of horses wearing a belly band following an exploratory laparotomy developed incisional complications, compared with 76.6% of horses where no belly band was used. If a belly band was used following an exploratory laparotomy, the risk of developing post-operative incisional complications was reduced by 45% compared to those cases where no belly band was used. The KANfix Equine Abdominal bandage was designed to reduce those reported complications including with colic surgery incisions.

After undergoing successful colic surgery the horse was discharged with her KANfix Abdominal bandage as part of her after care. Veterinary staff comment on the ease of being able to scan and change dressings without having to remove the body garment

KANfix Equine Sweetitch

Understanding the distress of Sweet Itch to her own horse , Small animal Vet Stephanie Peat was one of the first horse owners in the UK to use the KANFix Sweetitch Body Suit. “My horse has stopped itching and stomping his legs in this suit”.

SHOWfit Equine Recovery Garment

One of our SHOWfit ambassadors Jodie Stokes seeing the value of the recovery garments while competing
“ These suits were amazing this weekend, kept them cool and fly free whilst increasing circulation and improving recovery!”

“Looking back on my time @tatts2018 I was so grateful for the SHOWfit Equine Recovery Suit, using the compression technology helped stop Coco from being one of the horses that tied up”

KANfix Canine Rear Leg

Through an unfortunate accident Diesel was practically degloved with lacerations down to the bone. He was under the care of the team at Crescent Vets but they were struggling due to the extent and site of the lesion.

“Diesel injured his back leg and was at the point of amputation, the KANfix bandage held the dressings in place and saved his leg”. Lucinda Myring, Vet, Emma Garner, Head Nurse, Crescent Vets, Melton Mowbray (as reported in Vet Times)

KANfix Canine Abdominal

Lottie is a 12-year old Giant Schnauzer who had a mass removed from her abdomen. Lottie’s owner became very concerned about Lottie being distressed with a Buster Collar as she is blind and relies on touch to find her was around the home. Instead Lottie was sent home in a KANfix bandage rather than a Buster Collar and was settled, comfortable and never attempted to touch her stiches.

KANfix Canine Front Leg

Rowe vets, in particular their soft tissue surgical team under vet Elise Best, were some of the first in the UK to adopt the KANfix bandage range. Through their feedback, the range has been iterated and grown to support the needs of the veterinary market. A key challenge to Elise was keeping drains in situ and managing wounds in difficult places following tumour removal. The KANfix range has allowed her to manage her cases through the whole process.

Cats

The size and nature of cats can sometimes present some of the more challenging bandaging options. The KANfix Bandage range has been successfully used with cats to assist in their wound management following various surgical procedures, including post amputations.
